Independent Oil & Gas Producers
Ithaca Energy — Company Profile
Ithaca Energy plc is one of the largest independent oil and gas companies operating in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS), with a portfolio spanning producing assets, major developments and future growth opportunities. Headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, the company has built its position through a combination of organic investment, acquisitions and operational expertise. Ithaca describes itself as a leading UK independent production and growth company, with interests in six of the ten largest UK North Sea fields and two of the basin's largest pre-development projects, Rosebank and Cambo.
Origin and History
Ithaca Energy was established in 2004 and initially developed its business through exploration and production opportunities before progressively concentrating its activities on the UK North Sea. A major phase of expansion followed as the company acquired interests in producing fields and developed a broader portfolio of UKCS assets.
The company became publicly listed on the London Stock Exchange in November 2022, marking an important stage in its development as a major UK independent producer. Its subsequent growth was accelerated by a series of strategic acquisitions, culminating in the transformational 2024 business combination with substantially all of Eni's UK upstream oil and gas assets. The transaction significantly expanded Ithaca's production base, reserves and development opportunities.
Ithaca continued its expansion during 2025, including increasing its interests in major producing assets such as Seagull and Cygnus and acquiring JAPEX UK E&P Limited. These investments strengthened the company's position as a major UKCS operator.
Achievements and Growth
Ithaca's enlarged portfolio delivered average production of 119,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025, compared with 80,000 boe/d in 2024. Its year-end exit production rate reached approximately 148,000 boe/d, demonstrating the increased capacity of the enlarged business. The company reported 658 million boe of combined 2P reserves and 2C resources and a reserves replacement ratio of more than 130%.
The company has also made progress in operational efficiency and emissions performance. Its 2025 gross operated emissions intensity fell to 17.2 kgCO₂e/boe, below the latest reported basin average of approximately 24 kgCO₂e/boe.
