Amjad Bseisu — Chief Executive of EnQuest

Amjad Bseisu is a British-American energy executive, entrepreneur and investor best known as the Chief Executive and founding figure of EnQuest plc, the independent energy company focused on the UK North Sea and Southeast Asia. He has spent more than four decades in the international energy industry, combining engineering expertise with experience in upstream operations, corporate development, investment, mergers and acquisitions. Bseisu has served as EnQuest's Chief Executive since the company was formed in 2010.

Education and Early Career

Bseisu has an extensive technical and business education. He earned a BSc Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University, followed by an MSc and Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng.) in Aeronautical Engineering from Stanford University. He also completed an Executive MBA from SMU. His combination of engineering and business education provided the foundation for a career spanning technical, commercial and executive leadership.

He began his professional career with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) in 1984. During his 14 years with the company, he progressed through senior international roles and ultimately became President of ARCO Petroleum Ventures and ARCO Crude Trading, giving him extensive exposure to international energy markets, business development and upstream investment.

Entrepreneurial Career

In 1998, Bseisu founded Petrofac Resources International Limited and served as its Chief Executive. The business subsequently merged into Petrofac plc in 2003. He later became involved in the creation and development of independent energy businesses, including serving as a founding non-executive chairman of Serica Energy and a founding partner of Stratic Energy Corporation.

In 2010, Bseisu helped establish EnQuest plc, which became a London-listed independent energy company specialising in the acquisition, operation and optimisation of mature oil and gas assets. Under his leadership, EnQuest has developed an increasingly diversified portfolio across the UK North Sea and Southeast Asia. In 2025, the company reported production of 45.6 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, while maintaining approximately 90% asset uptime.

Recognition and Industry Leadership

Bseisu served as British Business Ambassador for Energy from 2013 to 2015, representing UK energy-sector interests internationally. Since 2016, he has also chaired the Independent Energy Community of the World Economic Forum, reflecting his continuing involvement in global energy discussions.

His leadership has also extended into renewable energy and energy transition initiatives. He previously chaired Enviromena, a major solar engineering company in the MENA region, until its sale in 2017.

Family and Personal Life

Bseisu maintains a relatively private personal profile. Public records do, however, document his connection with the Amjad and Suha Bseisu Foundation, where he has served as a director since 2011. EnQuest's shareholder disclosures also state that a majority of the Bseisu family's consolidated EnQuest shareholding is held through Double A Limited, which is beneficially owned by his extended family.
